Quickening: Songs by Robert Hugill to English and Welsh poets

Quickening is a new disc of Robert Hugill's songs which will be issued on the Navona Records label in September 2017. The songs are being performed by an exciting group of young British artists.

The recording was made in November 2016, at Potton Hall, the recording studio, where in the peace of the Suffolk countryside we recorded the songs with William Vann (piano), Anna Huntley (mezzo-soprano), Rosalind Ventris (viola), Johnny Herford (baritone) and recording engineer Andrew Walton of K&A Productions.

The songs set poems by Rowan Williams, Ivor Gurney, A.E. Housman and Christina Rossetti. The settings of A.E.Housman and Ivor Gurney arose out of songs Robert Hugill wrote for the English Poetry and Song Society's AE Housman and Ivor Gurney competitions, with the AE Housman setting taking third place, and the Gurney settings taking second and fourth place.
